2026 CHALK IT UP!

MARCH 27-29, 2026

Freedman Arts District is seeking chalk artists to showcase their talent in Beaufort’s most colorful art festival “Chalk It Up!”, in the heart of the City of Beaufort, SC. 

Chalk It Up! is an immersive, large-scale street painting experience. Professional and emerging visual artists create larger-than-life, bold images in pastel directly on pavement for all to watch. 

This colorful three-day celebration will also feature live performances by local musicians, and artisan craft booths. The festival is FREE and open to the public. 

On Friday, March 27, Chalk It Up! – Beaufort’s most colorful Festival will kick off with an Opening Reception that is sure to be special!

The event will go on rain or shine. Artists will work with organizers to protect their artwork using plastic tarps & tape.
Artwork must be appropriate for all viewers family friendly. No nudity or political statements will be accepted. Artwork will contain no words or symbols intended as advertising or promotion. Artwork may not violate any copyright laws.

Artists are expected to actively work on their chalk art throughout both days of the festival. Supplies, including the pastels, will be provided. 

Artist Compensation: Artists outside of 50 miles from Beaufort will receive an $700 stipend to assist in their travel and lodging expense. Artists within 50 miles of Beaufort will receive a $100 stipend, Stipends will be paid at the conclusion of the festival on Sunday March 29.
