*As the artist, I am committing to the entire two-day festival dates and acknowledge that Freedman Arts District and Chalk It Up! organizers are entitled to photograph and reproduce the street paintings by the artist(s) for future promotions and advertisements.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Artists are encouraged to create chalk illustrations that transform 8x8x vertical panels, or 8x8ft. or 10x10ft. spaces of pavement. There are also six 8×8 vertical panels and 3D image spaces available.   No street painting experience required for emerging artists. Free for artists to participate. 

Artists must be at least 18 years of age to apply. Non-toxic soft pastels will be provided. Use of any other material is forbidden (i.e. oil pastels, acrylic, gouache, markers, spray chalk, etc.) Additional pastels may be available if needed
and swapping with other artists is allowed.

Water-based tempera paint acceptable for undercoat.

The event will go on rain or shine. Artists will work with organizers to protect their artwork using plastic tarps & tape.
Artwork must be appropriate for all viewers family friendly. No nudity or political statements will be accepted. Artwork will contain no words or symbols intended as advertising or promotion. Artwork may not violate any copyright laws.

All applications will be reviewed based on proven experience to complete large-scale work, and description of concept. Applicants are to include examples of visual work. 

Artists are expected to actively work on their chalk art throughout both days of the festival. Supplies, including the pastels, will be provided. 

Artist Compensation: Artists outside of 50 miles from Beaufort will receive an $700 stipend to assist in their travel and lodging expense. Artists within 50 miles of Beaufort will receive a $100 stipend, Stipends will be paid at the conclusion of the festival on Sunday March 29.
